During World War II a group of American soldiers are sent into Europe to kill Nazis. They've become so good at it that the Germans refer to them as The Basterds. Later, they work with a British officer who was sent to formalize a plan to kill several high ranking German officers at the premiere of a movie depicting the "heroics" of a German soldier. But something goes wrong at the meeting with their contact, a German actress, all of the members of the team who speak German are killed which complicates the plans. So the leader Lt. Raine comes up with an alternative. And another complication is the screening is being moved to a small theater because the man depicted in the movie takes a liking to the owner of the theater. And unknown to them, she is a Jew whose entire family was killed by a Nazi officer, who was tasked with rounding up the Jews and is now the security officer of the screening. This was really enjoyable, Quentin has done it again, and for all the bad reviews I’ve seen, screw that, those people just took the film too seriously. Yes its historical FICTION, so if the director wants to kill Hitler then he can, and someone was calling the film hypocritical, well I think thats the point duh!
The scenes were long yet very entertaining, I had really enjoyed Chapter 4 in the bar, I believe it was called Operation KINO. The end of that chapter was great. The film was very violent (not a bad thing lol. Yes it dehumanized the Nazi’s, but the way it was done also dehumanized the heroes.

It is schlock over substance in this WWII re-write from Tarantino. A film destined to be remembered solely for Christoph Waltz’s chilling performance, this is a flabby outing from Tarantino that could have been so much better with some discipline in the editing room.
The story hardly matters, being merely the backdrop for the standard fare of bitter banter exploding into violence that we have come to expect from Tarantino. Amusing at first sight, these sequences do not stand up to repeat viewing, as most people’s return to Pulp Fiction will testify. In IB, the sequence in the basement pub, where the Gestapo agent is introduced to rack up the tension, extends interminably. The Bear Jew is given a big build up to no real effect – by now, we know how this particular episode is going to end, diluting the visceral effect. Waltz is dazzling, sinister and absurd, and manages to eclipse an inspired performance from Brad Pitt as Lt. Aldo Raine. There is a truly laugh-out-loud moment when Raine gives us a display of his linguistic dexterity with regard to Italian. Mélanie Laurent as Shosanna Dreyfus is plodding at best. At only one time did I experience a cinematic moment – when the film projects on to a wall of smoke.
At times this feels like Valkyrie, The Comedy. For Tarantino, success has led to bigger budgets, and a corresponding lack of people prepared to honestly critique the film in the making, which is why the hunger and discipline are clearly absent from this film. The film is neither dull nor memorable, and that just isn’t good enough from a filmmaker who has set the bar so high for himself.

Tarantino at the top of his game. Christoph Walz earned a well deserved Oscar for his portrayal of the famed “Jew Hunter” Hans Landa, but this movie is much more than his stellar performance. Melanie Laurent, Michael Fassbender, Diane Kruger and, yes, Brad Pitt all put in strong performances in this revenge fantasy.
The visuals and music are pure Tarantino, but it is in the dialogue and situations that this movie soars. He builds the tension up to a crescendo and then the violence soars off the screen to give a true visceral experience.
If you are looking for a good introduction to Tarantino, this is it. If you are a Tarantino fan, then you’ve already seen this movie.

This movie is, in my opinion, one of the better horror movies of the past 5 years. I cannot even imagine the pressure Mike Flannigan was under while shooting this thing. In my mind, he did a great job directing this movie, while it may not be perfect it is pretty damn good. There are certain points of the movie feels more like a superhero movie than a horror movie, particularly near the end. That part, I don’t like, but the rest of the movie is pretty good. This movie is dark, but not sadistic, it is scary, but not full of jumpscares. Both positives. Would recommend.

This is waaaaay too long of a movie to see on a Saturday matinée.
Three hours? C’mon.
Good to great acting, directing from a master, sure, but three hours? I’ve seen this type of film from Scorcese before. The biopic type of movie, i.e. the Howard Hughes movie. Gorgeous, yes. But I should have known what I was getting in for.
Props to the director for making a story that we already knew the ending to so entertaining. I wouldn’t hold out hope for such a movie in the hands of someone else.
Recommended. But not for people who get sore butts.
Martin Scorsese redoes Goodfellas in the financial sector. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Jordan Belfort, a young man immediately smitten with the ruthlessness of Wall Street (at first represented by Matthew McConaughey in a hilarious cameo. After the market sees a startling crash in the late ’80s, DiCaprio gets pushed out of the big leagues. He quickly finds a way in smaller markets, pushing penny stocks. He figures out ways, not all of them strictly legal, to make cash hand over fist. Soon, paired with new best friend Jonah Hill, he opens his own firm. All the rules go out the door as he pulls in millions of dollars a year, which leads to all sorts of drug-fueled mayhem. The draw here is the pure debauchery. It will surely offend some, but the pure spectacle of depravity is enormously amusing. The film really doesn’t want to think too hard about the awful things that Belfort is doing, which is kind of a bold choice. Sure, he does end up suffering in the end, but, with all he experienced beforehand, the little bit of suffering seems almost worth it. It could easily be argued that it’s a hugely immoral film, but I think it just wants to put us in the action. The film has an epic runtime, which isn’t really deserved. I wasn’t exactly bored with it (though I was feeling it physically) but it could have been shortened. DiCaprio gives one of his best performances, but I was most amused by Hill. Many will despise his abrasive character, but I thought he was hilarious.
